For Your Information

  • Equipment your athletes need: running shoes; comfortable shorts and shirts (but avoid baggy clothing which operate like parachutes, significantly slow runners); full water bottle for all practices and meets (as all athletes must stay hydrated). Track spikes are optional.

  • For discipline, the coaches are in charge during practices. If after having her or his behavior corrected by a coach once, and the athlete misbehaves again, we will have her or him report to the parent and sit out practice or the meet on the sidelines. This is rarely a problem for us, but with only about ten coaches at practice with maybe as many as one hundred children for whom we are responsible, we do not have the time to devote repeatedly to one misbehaving athlete.

  • “Let the coaches do the coaching.” All of our coaches devote a great deal of time teaching strategy, technique, and form to runners, jumpers, hurdlers, and throwers. During practices and meets, please do not advise your child how to run or jump or throw; the young athlete will become confused, frustrated and distracted. During meets, parents please stay off the infield and the track. Often even we coaches are banned from those places.
